On 5 May 2019, FinDreams Battery Co., Ltd. was registered as a successor to the BYD Lithium Battery Co. Ltd., established in 1998. It specializes in lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries and is the world's third largest producer of electric vehicle batteries.

On 27 April 2020, BYD hired attorney Charles Harder and filed a federal civil complaint in U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York, against Vice Media alleging defamation for a story about BYD using forced Uyghur labor in its supply chain which was published on 11 April 2020.

On 5 November 2021, a 36-year-old employee of BYD was found dead in a rented home, and the cause of death remains unclear. BYD agreed to pay the deceased employee's family a lump sum of ¥200,000 RMB in compensation, raising concerns and drawing attention to the issue of high-intensity overtime work.

On November 24, 2023, BYD became the first company in the world to produce its 6 millionth new energy vehicle.

Yangwang is BYD's luxury car brand positioned in a price range above CN¥1 million to compete with European luxury brands. It was announced on January 5, 2023, at the Guangzhou Auto Show, along with its first model, the U8 off-road plug-in hybrid SUV.

Fangchengbao is BYD Auto's brand that produces 'professional' and 'personalised' vehicles, covering off-road and track-focused segments. It operates its own direct sales stores and released its first model, the Bao 5 plug-in hybrid SUV, on August 16, 2023.

BYD's first roll-on/roll-off cargo ship, named 'BYD Explorer No.1', was delivered and left the construction base in Longkou, Shandong province on January 9, 2024. The ship arrived at Yantai Port on the same day, before heading to Shenzhen for loading cars for exporting to Europe.
