Hu Jintao, the Chinese retired politician, was born on 21st December 1942.

Hu Jintao, the former president of China, was born on December 25, 1942 in Taizhou, Jiangsu province, China.

The office of state chairman was established in 1954, succeeding the chairman of the Central People's Government, and was successively held by Mao Zedong and Liu Shaoqi.

In April 1964, Hu Jintao joined the Chinese Communist Party after graduating from Tsinghua University. This marked the beginning of his political career.

During the Cultural Revolution in 1966, Hu Jintao, like many other educated urban youths, was sent to perform manual labor in the countryside. He worked as a construction worker for a year in Gansu province.

The elder Hu died 10 years later in the waning days of the Cultural Revolution at the age of 50. Hu Jintao returned home to Taizhou to seek exoneration for his father, but his efforts were met with little success.

In 1985, Hu Jintao was appointed as the party secretary for Guizhou province, where he played a key role in implementing educational and economic reforms.
