Jon Jones

Jon Jones made his UFC debut against André Gusmão at UFC 87 on August 9, 2008. He accepted the deal on short notice as a replacement for another fighter and won the match via unanimous decision.

On July 11, 2009, Jon Jones secured a victory against Stephan Bonnar with a guillotine choke in the second round at 2 minutes and 43 seconds.

On December 5, 2009, Jones fought fellow light heavyweight prospect Matt Hamill at The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights Finale. Jones used his wrestling to dominate Hamill, but was disqualified for the use of illegal 12–6 elbows.

Jones fought Brandon Vera on March 21, 2010, at UFC Live: Vera vs. Jones. He won the fight by TKO after an elbow to Vera's face followed up with various punches in the first round. The elbow delivered to stop the fight also broke Vera's face in three places.

Jon Jones defeated former IFL Light Heavyweight Champion Vladimir Matyushenko by TKO with elbows in the first round. Dana White promised Jones a tougher competition if he won.

Jones faced the undefeated Ultimate Fighter winner Ryan Bader and handed him his first professional loss by defeating him via submission due to a guillotine choke in the second round.

On March 19, 2011, at UFC 128, Jones defeated Rua by TKO at 2:37 of Round 3, becoming the youngest ever UFC champion. After an early flying knee that badly hurt the champion, Shogun was dominated throughout the three rounds. A body shot and knee to the head dropped the champion to his knees, causing the referee to step in and halt the match.

From September 2011 to January 2015, Jon Jones successfully defended his light heavyweight title for eight consecutive times, solidifying his status as a dominant champion.

Jones made his first title defense against Quinton Jackson on September 24, 2011, at UFC 135. Jones defeated Jackson via rear naked choke submission at 1:14 in the 4th round. In the process, he became the first UFC fighter to submit Jackson.

Jones successfully defended the light heavyweight title at UFC 140, stopping Machida at 4:26 of the second round via guillotine choke technical submission, which caused Machida to collapse unconscious along the cage. This was the first submission loss in Machida's career.

Jon Jones faced his arch rival and former teammate Rashad Evans at UFC 145 on April 21, 2012, and won via unanimous decision. This victory solidified his position as a dominant force in the UFC light heavyweight division.

On September 22, 2012, Jon Jones defeated Rashad Evans in a UFC match with a keylock submission at 0:54 in the first round.

On April 27, 2013, Jon Jones won a match with a KO/TKO victory by punches at 4:33.

Jon Jones faced Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 165, where he was badly cut above the eye during the first round but won the back-and-forth fight via unanimous decision. Both fighters were sent to the hospital for their injuries, and the match received numerous positive reviews and earned both fighters the Fight of the Night bonus award.

On September 23, 2013, Jon Jones won a unanimous decision over Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 165 in Toronto, which is considered one of the greatest title fights in UFC history. This victory also led to Jones breaking Tito Ortiz’s UFC record for most consecutive light-heavyweight title defences.

On August 4, 2014, Jon Jones was involved in a brawl with Daniel Cormier at a UFC 178 press event in a Las Vegas hotel.

On January 6, 2015, Jon Jones checked into a rehab facility following the revelation of a positive test for cocaine metabolites during an out-of-competition drug screening before UFC 182.

On April 27, 2015, Jon Jones surrendered to Albuquerque police following a hit-and-run incident that caused injury to a pregnant woman. Marijuana was also discovered in his vehicle.

The rematch between Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier was rescheduled to take place at UFC 200, but Jones was removed from the bout three days before the event due to a potential doping violation.

Jon Jones was suspended for one year by USADA, retroactive to July 7, after a doping violation, and was also stripped of his interim title, becoming the first fighter in UFC history to be stripped of a title twice.

On November 9, 2016, Jon Jones was stripped of his interim title by the UFC. In an interview with ESPN, UFC president Dana White referred to Jones as the 'greatest talent ever and the biggest screw-up ever.'

Jones was further suspended by the Nevada State Athletic Commission for one year, adding to his previous suspension by USADA.

Prior to his UFC 214 grudge match against Daniel Cormier, Jon Jones tested positive for steroids, confirmed by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA). His 'B' sample from the failed drug test also came back positive.

Jones was flagged for a potential doping violation by USADA for testing positive for Turinabol, an anabolic steroid, after his fight with Daniel Cormier at UFC 214. This led to the fight being overturned to a no contest and Jones being stripped of the Light Heavyweight championship.

Jon Jones tested positive for Oral Turinabol, an anabolic steroid, after a test sample collected on July 28. He was placed on provisional suspension by USADA.

On September 12, 2017, USADA confirmed that the 'B' sample from Jon Jones's failed UFC 214 test matched the findings of the 'A' sample, further implicating him in the doping controversy.

On September 13, 2017, the UFC announces it has stripped Jon Jones of his title and reinstates Cormier as the 205-pound champion.

USADA confirmed that the 'B' sample of Jon Jones tested positive for Turinabol, leading to the bout result being changed to a no-contest and the light heavyweight championship returned to Cormier.

Jon Jones returned at UFC 232 in a rematch with Alexander Gustafsson for the vacant UFC Light Heavyweight Championship. He defeated Gustafsson by technical knockout in the third round to win the title.

In the first defense of his second championship reign, Jones faced Anthony Smith at UFC 235. Despite being deducted two points in the fourth round, he won the fight via unanimous decision.

Jones faced Dominick Reyes at UFC 247 and won the fight via controversial unanimous decision, setting the new record for most wins in UFC title fight history with 14 wins.

It was announced on March 8, 2020, that the fight between Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 165 will be inducted to UFC Hall of Fame's Fight Wing on July 9. The match received numerous positive reviews and was considered one of the greatest fights in UFC history.

In September 2021, a domestic incident involving Jon Jones and his fiancée, Jessie Moses, occurred at the Caesars Palace resort hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. Jones was detained by police after his youngest daughter made a 9-1-1 call for help, and Moses was found with injuries consistent with physical altercation. Jones was charged with domestic battery and tampering with a police vehicle.

After a hiatus of three years and 25 days, Jon Jones returns to the octagon to compete for the UFC heavyweight title against Ciryl Gane. This marks his comeback to Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena, where he last fought at UFC 247.
