Denver Nuggets

In 1939, the Denver Nuggets, an AAU team paying homage to the Colorado Gold Rush, won the national championship of the amateur league.

In 1971, the Denver Rockets changed their name to the Denver Nuggets. This rebranding marked a new era for the team.

In 1972, the Denver Nuggets underwent a change of ownership and were renamed from the Denver Larks to the Nuggets.

In 1974, the Denver Rockets changed their name to the Denver Nuggets in anticipation of a move to the NBA.

The Denver Nuggets advanced to the ABA finals in 1975 after having the best record in the league, but lost to the New York Nets.

In 1980, the Denver Nuggets traded for forward Alex English, who would go on to become the franchise’s all-time leading scorer in 10 and a half seasons with the team.

In 1985, McCombs sold the Denver Nuggets to Sidney L. Schlanker for $20 million.

In 1994, Dikembe Mutombo led the Denver Nuggets to a stunning first-round upset against the Seattle SuperSonics, marking the first time an eighth-seeded team defeated a top-seeded team.

In 1999, the Pepsi Center was completed in Denver to replace the McNichols Sports Arena as the new sports home for Denver's teams. It also serves as a popular concert venue in the city.

In July 2000, real estate entrepreneur Stan Kroenke purchased the Denver Nuggets, along with the Colorado Avalanche and Pepsi Center, in a $450 million deal. This acquisition marked the beginning of Kroenke's ownership of the Nuggets and other sports assets under Kroenke Sports Enterprises.

The Denver Nuggets had a 45-37 record with a winning percentage of .549, finishing 6th in the Western Conference. They lost in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs with a 1-4 record.

On December 19, 2006, the Denver Nuggets traded for superstar Allen Iverson, forming a duo with Carmelo Anthony. The team had high-scoring potential with both players.

The Denver Nuggets had a 50-32 record with a winning percentage of .610 during the 2007-08 NBA season. They finished 8th in the Western Conference but unfortunately lost in the first round of the playoffs with a 0-4 record.

On March 16, 2008, the Denver Nuggets scored 168 points in a home win over the Seattle SuperSonics, which was the third-most points scored for a regulation game in NBA history.

On February 22, 2011, Carmelo Anthony was traded from the Denver Nuggets to the New York Knicks in a multi-player deal. This trade marked a significant change in the Nuggets' roster and playing style, leading to a shift in team dynamics.

In a four-team trade, the Denver Nuggets acquired All-Star Andre Iguodala while sending Arron Afflalo and Al Harrington to the Orlando Magic. This trade also involved sending Dwight Howard to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Following the departure of Karl and general manager Masai Ujiri, the Denver Nuggets appointed Tim Connelly as the new president of basketball operations in June 17, 2013. This move marked a significant change in the team's leadership.

On June 24, 2014, Denver Nuggets made a historic decision by selecting Nikola Jokic from Serbia with the 41st pick in the NBA draft. Jokic's arrival was delayed until the following summer, but he eventually became a two-time MVP and established himself as one of the top players globally.

After the Shaw experiment fails, Denver Nuggets hire Michael Malone as their next coach. Malone, who previously coached the Sacramento Kings, was let go after a slow start in his second season.

On June 23, 2016, the Denver Nuggets selected Kentucky guard Jamal Murray with the final pick swap of the Carmelo Anthony trade. Despite not starting immediately, Murray eventually became a key player for the Nuggets.

On December 15, 2016, a significant event occurred in Nuggets history when coach Malone made the decision to start Nikola Jokic at center instead of Jusuf Nurkic. This decision ultimately led to Nurkic being traded to the Portland Trailblazers.

The Nuggets and Timberwolves faced off in a crucial winner-takes-all matchup on the final day of the season, Game 82. Minnesota emerged victorious in overtime, revealing a promising performance by Murray and Jokic despite the loss.

On June 21, 2018, the Denver Nuggets had the final pick in the NBA draft and decided to take a risk by selecting Michael Porter Jr. at No. 14. Porter Jr., who was once considered a top prospect, fell down the draft board before being chosen by the Nuggets.

On January 31, 2019, Nikola Jokić was selected as a Western Conference reserve for the 2019 NBA All-Star Game, marking the Nuggets' first All-Star since Carmelo Anthony in 2011.

The Denver Nuggets played against the Toronto Raptors and won with a score of 125-119.

The Denver Nuggets played against the Atlanta Hawks and won with a score of 142-110.

On April 13, 2019, the Denver Nuggets made a comeback to the NBA playoffs after a five-year absence. They secured the No. 2 seed and went on to defeat San Antonio in seven games, but unfortunately, they were eliminated by Portland in the conference semifinals, losing Game 7 at home.

The NBA bubble playoffs start with the Denver Nuggets as the No. 3 seed, leading to the emergence of 'Bubble Murray' who plays a key role in the team's comeback victories against the Jazz and Clippers.

After successful draft picks of Jokic, Murray, and Porter, the Denver Nuggets' General Manager, Connelly, made a significant move by trading Gary Harris, R.J. Hampton, and a future first-round pick to Orlando for forward Aaron Gordon.

On April 12, 2021, Jamal Murray tore his ACL in a game against the Warriors, causing him to be sidelined for almost two seasons. This injury derailed the Denver Nuggets' momentum as they were considered title contenders.

Nikola Jokic, a player for the Denver Nuggets, was awarded the NBA MVP trophy and was congratulated by his teammates before a game. He is the first player from the Denver Nuggets to receive this prestigious award.

Without Jamal Murray, the Denver Nuggets' season comes to an end with a Game 4 loss to Phoenix in the Western Conference Semifinals.

With their victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Denver Nuggets are now within percentage points of securing the top seed in the Western Conference, competing closely with OKC Thunder and Minnesota Timberwolves.

On July 6, 2022, Booth makes his first major move by acquiring Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Ish Smith from Washington in exchange for Monte Morris and Will Barton.

The next day, on July 7, 2022, Booth signs Bruce Brown, who later becomes one of the league's top reserves.

During Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals at Ball Arena, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope of the Nuggets passed the ball after a fight. The Nuggets emerged victorious with a score of 132-126 against the Lakers.

During Game 3 of the NBA Western Conference Final, Denver Nuggets guard Jamal Murray (27) makes a shot over Los Angeles Lakers guard Austin Reaves (15) in Los Angeles.

On May 22, 2023, after 47 years, the Nuggets secure their first NBA Finals berth by sweeping the Lakers. Denver emerged victorious against Minnesota, Phoenix, and L.A. on their path to the championship round.

The Denver Nuggets win their first championship in franchise history by defeating the Heat in five games in the NBA Finals.

Jamal Murray, at 26 years old, surpassed Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf to claim the 9th spot on the Denver Nuggets' all-time scoring list after a game against the Utah Jazz. He is considered one of the greatest scorers in the team's history despite never being selected for an NBA All-Star game.
