Muhammad

Muhammad was born in the year 570 in the town of Mecca. He was the first and only son of Abd Allah bin Al-Muttalib and Amina bint Wahb. Raised by his mother Amina and later a wet nurse named Halima, he grew up in the hill country of western Arabia.

When Muhammad was five or six, his mother took him to Yathrib where she fell ill and died. He was then placed in the care of his paternal grandfather, Abdul Al-Muttalib, who taught him statecraft. This event marked the beginning of Muhammad's upbringing under his grandfather's guidance.

After his grandfather's death in 578, young Muhammad was taken care of by his paternal uncle, Abu Talib. He grew up in his uncle's home and was protected by him for many years.

In 594, Muhammad started working for a wealthy Meccan merchant named Khadija bint Khawalayd. He carried her goods to the north and brought back profits, establishing himself as a trustworthy agent.

Muhammad married Khadija in 595 after being impressed by his honesty and character. They had six children together, including two sons who died in infancy and four daughters. Their marriage was prosperous and Muhammad managed Khadija's business affairs.

In 605, the Quraysh tribe decided to roof the Kaaba in Mecca, which had previously only consisted of walls. Amid concerns about upsetting the deities, a man demolished the structure, and the reattachment of the Black Stone led to a dispute resolved by Muhammad.

Muhammad received his first divine revelation on Mount Hira, marking the beginning of his prophethood.

In 613, Muhammad started revealing the messages he received to his tribe, which later became the Qur'an. He and his followers faced ridicule, persecution, and attacks for their monotheistic beliefs. Muhammad's wife and uncle died during this time, and there was an assassination attempt on his life.

Muhammad sent some of his followers to emigrate to the Abyssinian Kingdom of Aksum to protect them from persecution in Mecca. The majority of the first group returned to Mecca before the Hijra event, while the second group remained in Abyssinia and later went to Medina.

Muhammad initially delivered verses that mentioned three Meccan deities, but later retracted them, claiming they were from Satan. This incident led to a general reconciliation between Muhammad and the Meccans.

Muhammad's migration to Medina, known as the Hijrah, marked a crucial turning point in Islamic history. It was a response to increasing persecution in Mecca and laid the foundation for the establishment of the first Muslim community in Medina.

On June 8, 632, Muhammad passed away in Medina after a brief illness. His death marked the end of an era and had significant implications for the future of Islam.
