Abdel Fattah al-Burhan

Sudanese army general and de facto ruler

Abdel Fattah al-Burhan is a Sudanese army general who assumed power after the Sudanese Revolution in April 2019. He led the Transitional Military Council and later became the chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council. Al-Burhan continues to lead the council following the 2020 Juba Agreement, despite a planned resignation in February 2021. He seized power in a coup d'état in October 2021 and remains the chairman of the reconstituted Sovereignty Council.
