BigBang

Taeyang, also known as Sol, was born on May 18, 1988, in Ujeonbu, South Korea. He is a well-known member of the K-pop group BigBang and has made significant contributions to the music industry.

BIGBANG was formed and debuted in August 2005, marking the beginning of their journey as a South Korean boy group under YG Entertainment.

BigBang officially debuted on August 19, 2006, at the Olympic Gymnastics Arena in Seoul during the YG Family 10th Anniversary Concert. Their debut single contained songs like 'We Belong Together', 'A Fool's Only Tears', and 'This Love', which was an adaptation of the American rock band Maroon 5 song, rewritten and performed by G-Dragon.

The album 'Bigbang Vol.1' was released in Korean on December 21, 2006.

The release of 'Lies' in 2007 propelled BIGBANG into superstars seemingly overnight.

The 1st live concert album 'The Real' was released on February 8, 2007.

Between 2007 and 2008, BIGBANG achieved breakthrough success and made their Japanese debut, expanding their influence beyond South Korea.

BigBang's popularity soared with the release of their breakthrough title track 'Lies' in August 2007. The song achieved number one on the music charts and earned the group several awards, including 'Best Male Group' and 'Song of the Year'.

In September 2007, BigBang released their EP 'Always', which marked several changes for the group. The lead single 'Lies' became their first number one hit and the album sold over 120,000 copies.

In November 2007, BigBang released their EP 'Hot Issue', which followed the success of their previous release. The lead-single, 'Last Farewell', topped various charts, including the Melon chart for eight consecutive weeks, becoming the longest-running number one hit by a boy group.

BigBang won the Daesang award at the Seoul Music Awards in 2008.

The 2nd live concert album 'The Great' was released on February 29, 2008.

The album 'Number 1' by Bigbang was released in Korean on October 22, 2008.

The album 'Remember' by Bigbang was released in Korean on November 5, 2008.

In December 2008, BigBang released their third Korean EP, 'Stand Up', which exceeded the 200,000 mark in sales. Their second Korean studio album, 'Remember', yielded the number one single, 'Sunset Glow', and the album went on to sell over 200,000 copies.

Big Bang members were arrested for marijuana possession.

From 2009 to 2011, BIGBANG members pursued solo endeavors, engaged in Japanese activities, and released the album 'Tonight', showcasing their versatility and international presence.

The live concert album 'Big Show' from 2009 was released on April 22, 2009.

The album 'BIGBANG' was released in Japanese on August 19, 2009.

The live concert album 'Big Show' from 2010 was released on June 23, 2010.

In 2010, Taeyang released his first full length album Solar, which earned him the 'Best Male Artist' award at the 2010 Mnet Asian Music Awards.

The special edition of the album 'BIGBANG' was released in 2011.

In early 2011, BIGBANG made a significant comeback with their Korean single 'Tonight,' which played a crucial role in solidifying their sound in the K-Pop music industry.

The album 'BIGBANG 2' was released in Japanese on May 12, 2011.

BigBang released their third Greatest Hits album, The Best of Big Bang, which contained a Japanese version of 'Haru Haru'. The album topped the Oricon Daily chart on its first day of release and went on to sell over 14,000 copies in the first week.

The album 'Alive' by Bigbang was released in Korean on February 29, 2012.

The album release coincided with their annual concert, Big Show 2012, held at Seoul Olympic Park Stadium from March 2–4 to a sold-out crowd of 40,000 fans. This marked the official kick off of their first world tour, the Alive Galaxy Tour, in partnership with Live Nation.

The album 'Alive' by Bigbang was released in Japanese on March 28, 2012.

In 2013, G-DRAGON released his critically acclaimed solo album Coup d’Etat, which included hit singles like “Crooked” and “Who You?”. He also collaborated with American producers Skrillex and Diplo on “Dirty Vibe,” featuring CL of 2NE1, which gained popularity in both Western and Eastern audiences.

BigBang reunited in November 2013 for their Japan Dome Tour, holding concerts in six different dome arenas in Japan, being the first foreign act to do so. Gathering over 770,000 fans, the tour's total revenue, including tickets sold and merchandising sales, totalled $94 million.

In 2014, GD and Taeyang formed a duo and released the smash hit “Good Boy,” which sold over a million units in Korea and topped Billboard’s World Digital Singles Chart. The duo's collaboration further solidified their influence in the world of K-Pop.

BigBang's Made World Tour in 2015 was a critical and commercial success, praised for the diversity of their songs and performances.

BigBang embarked on their second world tour in April 2015, which received positive reviews and was commercially successful. The tour gathered 1.5 million fans around the world, making it the largest tour by any Korean act.

In 2015, BigBang made their comeback by releasing special project singles for their album Made: M, A, D, and E. The singles included hit songs like 'Loser', 'Bae Bae', 'Bang Bang Bang', and 'We Like 2 Party'.

Between 2015 and 2016, BIGBANG released 'M.A.D.E', undertook their second world tour, and celebrated their 10th anniversary, solidifying their status as a prominent force in the K-pop industry.

To commemorate the group's 10th anniversary, a documentary film Big Bang Made was released on June 30, 2016. The film followed the group through their Made Tour in 2015.

Bigbang, the Korean boy band, earned US$44 million in pretax earnings over the past year, surpassing the earnings of popular American all-male arena pop group, Maroon 5. They landed the No. 54 spot on Forbes' Celebrity 100 list, showcasing the group's immense popularity and financial success.

In 2017, BigBang became the first Korean artists to be included on Forbes 30 Under 30 list of musicians.

"Flower Road" was released on March 13, 2018, as a goodbye to their fans. The song set a record in China, reaching over a million sales in 3 days and 14 hours, the shortest amount of time for a Korean artist.

On March 11, 2019, Seungri announced his retirement from the entertainment industry due to scandals surrounding the Burning Sun nightclub, resulting in his departure from BigBang.

BigBang released a new single titled 'Still Life' on April 5, 2022, their first comeback in four years, and first as a quartet. The single debuted at number one on South Korea's Gaon Digital Chart.
